In VIT, we follow the relative grading system, which basically means your grades depend on the class average. You might get a low score and still end up getting a B or get a high score and still get a C. There are 8 grades, going from the highest - S, A, B, C, D, E, F, N.
F - fail
N - absent/failed to attend due to <75% attendance
Grades with points:
S - 10
A - 9
B - 8
C - 7
D - 6
E - 5
F - 0
A student :
Should have secured a minimum of 40% marks in the theory FAT alone.
Should have secured a minimum of 50% marks, out of total marks awarded to the
laboratory and/or project components.
Should have secured a minimum of 50% marks, out of the grand total marks awarded to
the course.
For the final marks calculation:
CAT 1 and 2 of 30 marks each are converted to 15.
Two Das and one quiz or vice-versa of 10 marks each.
So as you can see, internals are given 60% weightage.
40% of FAT marks.
The summation gives your score for the course.
CGPA CALCULATION:
((No.of credits * grade point))/(Total no.of credits)
Eg:
S in a 3 credit course
B in a 2 credit course
B in a 3 credit course
C in a 2 credit course
S in a 3 credit course
A in a 4 credit course
CGPA= (((10 * 3)+(8 * 2)+(8 * 3)+(7 * 2)+(10 * 3)+(9 * 4)))/(3+2+3+2+3+4)
= 8.82
